With Christmas and New Year fast approaching, you might not have time to think about anything taking place within 2017. However, as any good party planner knows, the earlier the better! Planning a party isn't always easy, which is why you should leave yourself as much time as possible to make it a successful one!

If you have a big event to plan in 2017, you may already be asking yourself where on earth you are going to start. Here are a few helpful top tips to organise your big event in 2017.

1. Develop an End Goal

Have a think about how you want your event to look visually and the atmosphere you are intending to create. Brainstorm a number of ideas on paper and see if you can come up with something unique.

2. Set a Date

An event can’t go ahead without a date! Set yourself roughly 4-6 months to plan, which should give you enough time to get everything in order. Also, consider whether there could be any public holidays that may clash with your event date. Choose a weekend rather than a weekday if possible for the same reason.

3. Decide on a Budget

You will need a reasonable budget for an event to go ahead as the initial outlay will not be cheap. Key items to budget for may include a venue, live music, a DJ, food and guest speakers amongst many others.

4. Choose a Venue

Deciding on a venue can be one of the trickiest parts of event organising. You need to find a place that suits the theme of the event but is also local enough for everyone to get to. If you are looking for hundreds or even thousands to attend, locating your event in a rural suburb may not be the best decision. Weigh up your odds and see what is out there.

5. Music Choices

An event just wouldn’t have the same atmosphere without music. Guests need a bit of background music at least to get into the party atmosphere. Whether you decide on just a DJ or a live music act to jazz the place up, music is crucial for a big event. The choice of music says a lot about the event too, so think wisely!
