Carrying on.

In a rehearsal, you can stop and fix the mistake, take it from the top and perform flawlessly, as if the mistake never happened. In a live performance, however, this luxury does not exist: mistakes are seen (or heard), they are acknowledged and they have to be worked around. The show must go on.

No moment was this more true than during The Talent’s New Year’s Eve performance at the Emirates Palace. We were in full swing, playing to a lively crowd of guests when the unthinkable happened. Our keyboard player, Jamie Brooks, had the keyboard slip out from under him and crash down onto the stage, during the middle of a song.

Powering Through

Whatever the show, whether a band, a solo act or a theatrical play, all performers will have to deal with the unexpected at some point.

Back in 2005, comedian Julian Clary slipped down a flight of stairs during a matinee performance of the pantomime Cinderella, chipping a bone in his right foot. Despite the pain, he graciously limped through the rest of the performance before being taken to hospital. Clary even refused to let his injury prevent him from performing the entire show again later that night in a wheelchair, stating that he had never missed a show in his life.

In 2015, Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl plunged down from the stage early on during a performance and injured his leg. Grohl was whisked away backstage for treatment whilst the band carried on, but he soon returned to the stage in a bandaged-up leg to carry on performing.

Just on the cusp of her career taking off, in 2008 Lady Gaga dealt expertly with her soundboard cutting out suddenly in the middle of a song. She carried on singing acapella and finished the entire number with no backing music.

Finally, who could forget the (admittedly fictional) moment during the film Mean Girls, where Lindsey Lohan’s character and the rest of the Plastics are performing a dance number and the stereo playing the music gets kicked off the stage and breaks. To break the awkward silence and stilted moment, Lindsey Lohan’s character begins to sing the song, eventually prompting the other girls and the audience to join in, and they finish their dance in spectacular style.

What all of these performers have in common is their resilience, refusing to let a setback prevent them from finishing a performance. At our New Year’s Eve show we didn’t want to let a technical issue stop us from putting on a fantastic performance for all of the guests. We powered through and delivered on our promise of an incredible show to welcome in the New Year in style.

During a live show, things can, and will, go wrong. But when they do, you just need to carry on and put your best foot forward; the audience demand a show and you are there to deliver.

Afterall, the show must go on.

While this seems odd, you could be seeing a lot more of it, and it could even be the next big thing in the music scene. While we all know the greats such as Elvis to have many impersonators and tributes, there is a new cover trend emerging, and The Talent are stepping into the world of super-niche covers.

An all metal tribute of the Bee-Gees, Stayin’ Alive… The adjective ‘interesting’ would probably come to mind first.

You could refer to this as doing covers of songs already out there, but as a band, making it true to your style and personality. We all know of maybe acoustic covers of songs, metal covers and more, and this is pretty much genre swapping, however there are pioneers in the world who are taking it to another level…

Charley Stone. In her spare time she’s is Joanne Joanne (an all-women Duran Duran cover band), The Fallen Women (Live karaoke versions of the Fall, played by women, with the audience singing too), The Misters of Circe ( a genderqueer Sisters of Mercy cover band) and Ye Nuns ( the work of 60s garage band the Monks performed by all women).

This is pretty far away from one man is a white jumpsuit singing suspicious minds to a backing track.

“At heart, it’s totally different,” Stone says, “even though in essence it’s the same thing. The motivation and the way it’s approached is completely different. We home in on what we like, so it’s like creating an ideal mix of songs you love. When you go to see a band that have all the right equipment, and they emulate all the guitar parts, it loses the energy. I wouldn’t want to be in a band that was trying to do a 100% faithful replication.”

With so many festive celebrations just around the corner, we thought we would use Novembers new releases to look at some ultimate party tunes that we have been introduced to lately.

The Talent have got plenty of party tunes in our repertoire which are sure to get the party started, however we cant help but get excited about what songs may be added to it in the near future.

Rita Ora – Anywhere

The RnB/Pop queen has arrived back on the scene and we can safely she’s come a long way since we saw her back in her first release with Tinie Tempah and ‘R.I.P’. Ever since we saw the arrival of Rita Ora, the nation has been transfixed with her continuation of party bangers and this is no exception.

With a true party vibe, you can’t help but want to get up on the dancefloor when this song begins to play.

We all know the array of songs that Craig David has burst onto the music scene with. He’s graced us with the all-time classic of ‘Rewind’ and more recently ‘Heartline’, and with his non-stop plethora of release after release we were simply sat by our headphones waiting for the next.

With a classic Craig David flare and the unique touch of Bastille we can’t help but wonder if this is going to be the next biggest request in party tunes.

Even the name of this song makes us think that its going to be a big smash hit! Shawn Mendes’ arrival has brought us many hits which are toe tappers, but this one is a sure party starter!

Its no doubt about it, that this young man has come a long way from his roots posting on Vine. At the young age of 19, we are hoping that he has many more party tunes waiting in his guitar.

We’ve seen her name and heard her voice all over the charts in the previous months, and she shows no signs of slowing down. Let’s face it, anyone who teams up with Alesso is bound to create a banger, and this one is on the list.

Alongside the country pop duo, Florida Georgia Line, this tune has a unique flare to it which is irresistible to the ear.
With an upbeat and positive vibe, you can’t help but want to bust a move or two along to this one.

Marrakech is one of the Talents newer locations, however it is becoming a favourite destination for couples to hold their wedding for its many unique characteristics- and we couldn’t agree and encourage this more!

Although Jamie couldn’t be with us on our trip, he managed to make an appearance for the group selfie- through facetime! We managed to get everyone in the shot. Off we go!

The venue was the stunning Ksar Char-Bagh. Grand, intricately detailed, and above all, perfect for a wedding. The talent was super excited to see where we were going to be performing here.

Here at the Talent, we love every decade of music and make sure we reflect this in our song repertoire. Our Function Bands, 4-Piece Bands and Live Wedding Bands in London love to get retro with 90’s music. Even our Acoustic duos like to belt out a classic 90s tune!

Since we are seeing everyone indulging in 90s music, we thought it perfect timing to reminisce in the decade of ‘Smells like Teen Spirit’ as well as the big standoff between Blur and Oasis and the time of ultimate girl power. So how did 90s music shape the world we live in today?

The Return of the Space Cowboy…

Music in the 90s saw a continuation of teen pop and dance-pop which emerged strongly in the 90’s and 80’s. While pop music was in the centre spotlight, hip-hop also grew to conquer the decade.

In the UK, pop music and dance music, however, were at the forefront of all music through the 1990s, with pop artists such as Jamiroquai, Seal and Right Said Fred storming into our radio speakers.

European managers began to create their own boybands, and these created a male-saturated market. Groups such as Take That, East 17, Westlife and Boyzone were groups we were all fans of. However, in 1996 the market was turned upside down by the introduction of girl power. Of course, it’s the spice girls. The most well-known girl group around the entire world achieved nine number 1 singles in the UK and the US, including “Wannabe”, “2 Become 1” and “Spice up Your Life”.

While we all remember posters of Geri, Emma, Mel B, Mel C and Victoria on our walls, we can’t forget the likes of Aqua and the classic songs such as the Macarena. Where would our parties be today without Barbie Girl and the Macarena?

You’re Twisting My Melon Man…

In the late 80s and early 90s, a counterculture movement burst from the Manchester club scene. We all remember The Happy Mondays and of course The Stone Roses.

From this counter-culture movement which was called Britpop by the music press, we saw many songs erupting onto the music scene specifically about the experiences in British Youth. Heavily influenced by the 60s, 70s and 80s British rock scene, they became intensely lyrical, with bands such as Blur, Suede and Oasis regularly topping the charts.

Oasis were arguably the biggest band in the Britpop era and their second album, (What’s the Story) Morning Glory became the second highest selling album of all time in the UK.

While this time was great while it lasted, it sadly ran out of steam towards the end of the nineties and most of the successful bands faded away. However, the well-known Travis and Coldplay did manage to ascend the rubble!

The likes of Oasis and Blue have even inspired post-2000’s modern bands such as The Courteeners.

Without the 90s and it gracing us with a whole load of exciting tunes, would we really be where we are today in the music industry? 2 would have never become 1, no one would’ve been able to do a vocal run like Mariah, we would still be paying for other people’s bills, bills, bills and we’d still be chasing waterfalls. But most of all, the Talent wouldn’t have their list of 90s belters to be able to perform!

Assistance is given to those persons, partners, or dependent children, who are, or have been connected with the meat trade within the UK and Ireland.

This fantastic charity offers help in two ways;

• One-off grants to help towards a major expense
• Assistance towards fees in a residential or nursing home

The fabulous funky pop star we all know and love, not only for her previously bright pink hair, but her rock ‘n’ roll attitude and a huge amount of talent, has given birth to her second child! Making it a family of four, Pink and husband Carey Hart have now welcomed Jameson Moon Hart into the world alongside daughter Willow Sage.

Not only has she given us a vast array of songs to belt out, but we think she will continue to show us that she can be one hell of a mum! Rock on Jameson!

Cry Baby

Paloma Faith’s always said she wanted to be a mother, and while she’s keeping everything under wraps she has now been graced with a child! She gave birth to partner Leyman Lahcine’s child in December last year and while she announced she had given birth through an emergency C-Section after a difficult labour, she hasn’t revealed any other details such as the gender or the name.

Good on you girl! You can keep all the details to yourself, but don’t forget to keep giving us some smash hits!

She Will Be Loved

Adam Levine and his model wife Behati Prinsloo recently had their daughter, Dusty Rose, but their baby boom hasn’t stopped there! The Victoria’s Secret model has recently revealed they are indeed pregnant with their second child.

While Levine doesn’t post too much about the pregnancy, he did post a super cute photo of Dusty laying on his tattooed chest. On the other hand, Behati keeps us regularly updated on Instagram, so be sure to follow her to see the journey of their new rock ‘n’ roll baby!

When we aren’t singing our hearts out into the microphone or busting some moves on stage entertaining our crowds, The Talent also  have other duties to attend to!

We have two new babies here at the Talent, who we are proud to introduce you to!

Bonniest Baby of ‘em all!

One member of the Talents band has been away recently to give birth to this little bundle of joy! Meet Bonnie, the treasure of The Talents band member Rose, who is now back in the band continuing to create sweet music, as well as keeping up with cuddles from this mini rocker! We are sure as she gets older, she will be right by our side, cheering us on and singing along to some of our performances!

 Bags of Joy!

Our Talent frontman who goes by the name of ‘Bags’ has recently gained a new fan, who has already made it as one of the cutest members of the Talent family! Her sweet name ‘Renais’ is as stunning as her big eyes and her cheeky little smile. She has recently hit the big six months, which is a wonderful time for laughs, smiles and plenty of fun! We can certainly wait for the terrible two’s!

We wonder whether she will follow in her father’s footsteps and become a rock ‘n’ roll baby.

Here at the Talent we are like one big family, and we love to keep you updated with what’s going on in our worlds, No matter how crazy they can get! Alongside performing everything from Bruno Mars and Ed Sheeran to the Blues Brothers and the Beatles, we also sing the occasional ‘twinkle twinkle little star’ and ‘incy wincey spider’ After all, we have to keep all of our fans happy, right?
